Level 3 SEND Teaching Assistant

2 x level 3 SEND TA role

Status: Permanent

Required: September 2019

Salary: 22 – 24 £21,285 – 22,625 (18,309 – 19,462 pro-rata salary)

Hours: 37 hours per week, term time only + 5 days

Reporting to: Headteacher

Tees Valley Education was recently granted permission to open a special free school for children with severe learning and associated complex needs. This free school, named Discovery Special Academy, has been open since September and is dedicated to delivering outstanding inclusive practice through a culture of co-production, experiential learning and growth, where carers and professionals work together to support the holistic development of the child. Currently, the academy is located on two of the trust’s existing academy sites. From September, this will all move to a single site at Brambles Primary Academy. Over the next two years, the new academy site will be developed at Sandy Flatt’s lane, Acklam. This is an incredibly exciting opportunity to become part of the growing team building this provision.

Therefore, Discovery Special Academy is seeking to appoint two pro-active, enthusiastic, energetic and reliable Level 3 Teaching Assistants to join the Tees Valley Education Trust. This position would be to work with children from Reception to Year 3. As a Level 3 Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside the class teacher, helping pupils to get the most out of their learning and supporting individuals or groups of pupils. Daily tasks may include:

  • setting up equipment and getting resources ready for lessons.
  • helping pupils who need extra support to complete tasks.
  • listening to children read, reading to them or telling stories .
  • comforting and caring for children if they have an accident or are upset.
  • helping the teacher to maintain records.
  • helping and leading on academy activities, sports events and outings.
  • undertaking observations of children and recording the outcomes of assessment.
  • Supporting with care needs as appropriate.
  • Delivering therapies and interventions.
  • Supervising children in the event of a teacher’s absence.
We are looking for people who have a genuine interest in working with children with complex SEND, are interested in their development and learning and have good organisational and communication skills. We ask that all staff working with our children hold qualifications in English and mathematics that are at least equivalent to GCSE grade ‘C’. Qualification as a teaching assistant (or equivalent) isessential.
