During the autumn term we have been getting to know each other and our new exciting environment! As our topic was ‘Do you want to be my friend?’ we have been working on communication with peers, turn taking and sharing resources. Our topic this half term is ‘Why do Squirrel’s hide their nuts?’ and we have been exploring new textures, new sounds and experiences as well as looking at things that change in nature during the Autumn season. We will be exploring our outdoor environments regularly to experience the changing weather and see just how the world around us changes.
We have been exploring The Gruffallo as part of our communication and focus sessions, helping widen the pupils vocabulary and recognition of some woodland creatures. We have also been exploring sounds that we can recognise or make ourselves and where appropriate pupils have been engaging with ‘Letters and Sounds’ phonics phase 1. We have been developing our use of symbols and signs as well as our listening and independent learning skills.
During our numeracy based sessions we have been working on recognising numbers, amounts and shapes, improving our independent problem solving abilities and improving our cause and effect skills through new class technologies.
We are very much looking forward to our potential visit to Guisborough walkway at the end of this term as well as our countdown to a visit from a jolly man in a red suit!
