Welcome back after a sunny Easter Break we hope this weather continues as we enter the Summer Term 2022.  Please remember that much of our learning takes place outside as well as inside so please start sending sun cream and sun hats as the temperature gets hotter.

This Summer term we will be learning all about ‘Under the Sea’ focusing on what animals live in the deep blue sea.  For the first half-term we will be focusing on two stories: ‘Commotion in the Ocean’ and ‘There’s a Whole at the Bottom of the Sea’.  These sensory stories are also part of our focus session, helping to develop our attention and listening and opportunities to join in with repetition and rhyme.  This will also link with our Speech and Language Programme SPLASH for this term and we hope to see some real fish in their tanks.  We will continue to observe and explore the world around us throughout the changing of seasons from Spring into Summer and continue looking look at growth.

During our numeracy-based sessions we will be focusing on number recognition and counting through rhymes and songs increasing to number rhymes to ten, such as 1,2,3,4,5 Once I Caught a Fish Alive, Ten Green Bottles and 1O Sausages in a Pan and begin to explore some 2D shapes: square, circle and triangle.  As well as, sending reading books home to share we will also begin to share our nursery rhyme packs to enjoy, helping to learn new rhymes that we will also be enjoying in school.

We will continue to work on our alternative augmented communication developing our use of symbols, signs and spoken word to include: learning Makaton signs, symbol exchange, communication books and the communication boards in and around school in support of developing our verbalisation skills through Intensive Interaction, Joint Attention, Play and Speech and Language Interventions throughout our everyday daily routines.  In addition, we will continue to develop our senses by engaging in our individual sensory programmes, physical activity and messy exploration as part of our therapeutic curriculum, whilst also accessing the Sensory Rooms and Soft Play at Pennyman Academy.

Please continue to share news and what you do at home via Showbie it is lovely to see such amazing progress happening at home too.
