Early Help is what we call the support we give to children and families as soon as problems start. By giving that help quickly, we can stop little problems becoming big problems which are harder to fix.
Middlesbrough Council’s Early Help service is called Stronger Families. We work with families to help them get the most out family life, be healthier, achieve, be safe and enjoy their lives together.
All families are entitled to Early Help support.

Tree Tops is a service anyone across the country can access to improve children and families’ qualities of life and educational opportunities. To educate and spread the word about Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) and the impact it has on children.
Children and adults can access this service from birth onwards and can present with a variety of difficulties and/or conditions.

Neurodevelopmental Pathway Team

Across South Tees, we have a ‘needs led’ neurodevelopmental pathway as we want to make sure you and your child are supported as much as possible, if you or a professional thinks that your child has a neurodevelopmental need. These are needs which are associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
We have created a ‘bubble of support’ across your local area with many services which can offer advice, guidance or support. There are also very active Parent Carer Forums which can offer peer support. There is also a comprehensive ‘virtual’ offer which can offer alternative websites and support tips for you to try at home.

Our child and adolescent mental health service provides assessment and appropriate treatment or intervention for children and young people until they are 18.
Our services are for people who are experiencing mental health problems, with the aim of positive mental health promotion.
The service is available to anyone with concerns. This includes parents, carers, school staff, health professionals and GPs, as well as children and young people worried about their own mental health.

Our Autism Central Hubs offer guidance to families, carers and personal assistants of autistic people. All of our sessions are run by Peer Educators. These are parents or carers of autistic people, who are happy to share their knowledge and experience with you.
Teesside Family Foundation
For the benefit of Teesside’s general population, the Teesside Family Foundation seeks to alleviate poverty and enhance the quality of life for individuals who are unable to support themselves due to age, illness, disability, or financial difficulties. Regardless of age, capacity for self-care, or financial status, their mission is to improve the quality of life for all Teesside’s less fortunate residents. They schedule a variety of charitable events each year to raise money for this goal and offer short breaks to the people they help.

Parents and carers can find new ways to help their child after receiving a diagnosis and learn more about autism through the Early Bird initiative. Among the subjects covered are ways to have better conversations and relationships with young children under 5. Using structures to support their child in a range of settings and situations. “Whilst there is no magic wand, Early Bird is the closest thing you could wish for’.
The CEA Card
The CEA Card is available to applicants aged 5 years and above. The Card enables a disabled cinema guest to receive a complimentary ticket for someone to go with them when they visit a participating cinema. The Card is also one way for cinemas to make sure they look after their disabled guests. If you require an adjustment to visit a cinema because of your disability, cinema staff should make them for you whether you have a CEA Card or not. The Card is developed by UKCA’s Disability Working Group, whose members include film exhibitors and distributors, and national disability charities such as RNID, RNIB, Dimensions and Whizz Kidz.

Our aim is to provide riding and therapy for people with disabilities in an inclusive, safe and supportive environment that will allow each individual to achieve their full potential. To provide this service we depend on a committed group of staff and volunteers and input from families and personal assistants. With limited funding from user fees, we rely entirely on fundraising and donations to subsidise the cost of lessons. In addition, we depend on contributions by able-bodied individuals and clubs also making use of our facilities.

Grenfell Club

The Grenfell Club is member led; we encourage our members to take ownership of their activities and community centre. We run evening and day sessions Monday to Friday, plus a health and well-being session on a Saturday. Members are responsible for the reception area, running our coffee bar and working in our allotment.
In a warm caring environment children, young people and adults with learning disabilities come to us to meet with their friends, learn new skills and develop in confidence.

MFC Foundation- Borobility

Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) replaced Disability Living Allowance (DLA) and is available to eligible people aged 16 to 64 years. PIP is to help towards some of the extra costs arising from a health condition or disability. It is based on how a person’s condition affects them, not the condition they have.
