This week, Carl’s class have explored the outdoors as part of some very exciting scientific enquiry work.  In addition to learning some of the names and features of a variety of common flowers, the children have learnt about the crucial role bees and other pollinators play to support the reproduction of many flowering plants.

The children were very engaged when learning how pollen is transferred from flower to flower.  They watched slow-motion videos of plants being pollinated by bees and other pollinators and couldn’t wait to see this first hand around the school site.

It was so lovely to witness the children’s joy as they visited the various green spaces and planting areas across school.  They whooped with glee as they observed a plethora of bumble bees dancing from flower to flower.  This serves to emphasise the importance of outdoor, exploratory learning to help develop and embed our children’s knowledge and understanding!
