‘Science’ – Freezing & Melting
In Carl’s class, the children have been exploring materials as part of their science curriculum. They have been investigating how water turns to ice when frozen.
The children were fascinated how the liquid form changes its state, going from water to ice and then back again to water.
The children placed objects into a bowl containing water and then placed it into the freezer. When the solid, frozen block of ice was taken from the freezer, the children thought about how they could help it to melt.
Using brushes, warm water and a little salt, the children painted the ice with the brushes and warm water and watched the solid mass decrease in size; this eventually enabled the children to collect the objects as the ice melted. They really enjoyed engaging with the ice and worked together well to help the frozen block to melt.
