Enrichment is important in schools because it helps students learn more than just academic subjects. It gives them chances to try new things, build confidence, and develop skills like teamwork and creativity. Activities such as sports, arts, and clubs can make school more enjoyable and help students feel more involved and motivated.
At Discovery, we think carefully when planning enrichment activities so they cater for all pupils, from nursery to Year 10. The academy offers a wide range of opportunities to match different interests and needs. This means every pupil can take part in something they enjoy and benefit from experiences that help them grow and succeed.
Enrichment can be described within the following categories:
Civic engagement- For example, volunteering, school and college democracy and community engagement

Arts and culture- For example, taking park in and having live experiences of music, art, dance, theatre and other expressive arts and visits to museums and galleries

Nature, outdoor and adventure- For example, time outdoors, climate education and sustainability projects gardening, residentials and camps

Sports and physical activities- For example, participating in individual and team sports, physical activities or cycling, representing the school and attending live events

Developing wider life skills- For example, STEM related enrichment, cooking, debating and managing finances
