Jamie’s Class Make a Difference by Litter Picking in Our Local Area
This week, Jamie’s class took their learning beyond the classroom and into the local community by taking part in a litter-picking project around the school.
Armed with litter pickers, gloves and high-visibility vests, the children worked in small groups to carefully collect rubbish from pavements, grass verges and nearby pathways. Before heading out, pupils were taught how to pick up litter safely, including why they should never touch waste with their hands, how to use litter pickers correctly, and why it is important to stay together as a group.
The children also learned about the importance of wearing appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment). They confidently explained that gloves protect their hands, and sturdy shoes help keep their feet safe.
During the activity, the class were shocked by how much litter they found but felt proud knowing they were helping to keep their local area clean and safe for everyone.
Well done to Jamie’s class for being fantastic eco-heroes and showing such care and responsibility for their community!
